Hienohilainen ilmakehämalli Mars-planeetalle (HIRLAM-ennustusmallin modifikaatio)(Suomen Akatemian projekti) Tutkimussuunnitelmasta: Mars Atmospheric Studies: A high resolution numerical model with improved dust properties The aim of this 3-year project is to modify, test and implement on CSC supercomputers the dynamics code of HIRLAM (the Nordic weather forecast model) for Mars conditions; to add, improve and optimize the physical parameterizations developed for the University of Helsinki Mars Mesoscale Model including improved methods for the handling of dust; and to couple the resulting high resolution limited area atmospheric model with boundary forcing fields from the NASA Ames Research Center Mars global climate model (GCM). This initial stage should take 1-2 years. The rest of the project time is then used to study various local circulation phenomena on Mars, including simulations around the existing Viking and Pathfinder and planned lander sites.
