Modification of carbon nanotubes

In this project the ways in which ion and electron irradiation can be used to modify carbon nanotubes to obtain desired functionality are examined. The basic dynamic mechanisms of defect production are examined with classical molecular dynamics, and the detailed properties of defects by quantum mechanical methods. Also the interaction of nanotubes with surrounding and encapsulated metals and organic materials are studied.
