The EGI (European Grid Initiative) Design Study project was started in September 2007 and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2009. Funded by the Seventh EU Framework Programme, the EGI initiative aims to integrate the National Grid Infrastructures (NGIs) into a European Grid. 38 European NGIs have already joined the EGI Design Study.

Objective

The EGI Design Study project aims to ensure that maximum benefit is derived from the investments made in the grid infrastructures and guarantee sustainability of the e-infrastructures in Europe. The project connecting the NGIs aims to create a stable and uniform grid infrastructure for the European research area, and to support international research cooperation and networking. The objective is to generate complementary support services and to consolidate results of development projects into packages that will be made available for research and industrial use.

CSC is intensively involved

Nine European research organizations are involved with the EGI Design Study project. CSC is responsible for dissemination of information. This involves ensuring visibility for EGI for collaboration partners representing different fields of science and industries, decision-makers, and the general public.
