CSC customer’s e-mail service will end on 3rd November

The e-mail services for CSC user accounts is ending, since CSC's IMAP server for customer e-mails (imap.csc.fi) will be phased out on 3rd November 2008.
The customer web survey arranged in May affirmed the fact, that the need for e-mailing via CSC servers has considerably reduced during recent years, since customers are primarily using the e-mail services of their home organization. Furthermore, nowadays it is possible to send e-mail messages from CSC
computing servers to an outside e-mail account, i.e. a local e-mail account is no more a necessity.
CSC has contacted all those customers in September who have answered in the web survey that they either need forwarding services or have other needs for assistance.
Timetable for shutting down the customer’s e-mail services:
1) Between September and October e-mail forwarding services are activated at CSC environment to all those customers who have sent their signed authorization letter to CSC. Customer will receive an e-mail confirmation of this matter to the e-mail address given in the authorization letter. NOTE: The ~.forward file located in the user's home directory has not been in use since 1st of August 2004.
2) On Monday 3rd November at 16:00 customer’s e-mail services (i.e. imap.csc.fi server and Webmail services) are shut down. From that moment on receiving of CSC e-mails will end to those customers who have not authorized forward settings at CSC environment. If somebody is trying to send e-mails to dismounted CSC domains, the sender will receive a Delivery Error Message telling that no such user exists anymore. At the same date users.csc.fi domain will be removed from use and will receive no mail afterwards. Reading of CSC e-mails also ends, so empty your e-mailbox and transfer all important e-mails to your local e-mail account before 3rd Nov.
3) All forwarding settings will be active as long as customer’s user account is active at CSC and the given e-mail address will accept forwarded e-mails. All requests for change concerning the e-mail forwarding may be sent to CSC Helpdesk, helpdesk_at_csc.fi (e.g. changes of the e-mail address or terminating the forwarding service).
