Changes in CSC’s hardware configurations

21.12.2006

Some of the nodes of IBMSC and Sepeli will be taken out of use in January 2007. Space must be cleared in the machine room for the new Cray XT4 equipment.

Half of the 16 IBMSC nodes will be shut down on 18 January. The clearing of the batch job queues will begin a week earlier. The queues for shorter jobs will be closed last.

128 nodes of Sepeli, which contain 256 processor cores will be shutting down on 8 January. The rest of nodes have 512 processor cores, which are connected with both a gigabit Ethernet and an InfiniBand switch.

The downgrading of the IBMSC and Sepeli will temporarily decrease the supercomputer resources offered by CSC, because Murska supercluster will be available later than planned, in the second quarter of 2007, because of a delay in the delivery.

The installation of the first phase of Cray XT4, called Louhi, begins at the end of January, and the machine will be available for customer use in March or April.
