How to apply user accounts for Murska
14.05.2007
For Murska user accounts applies almost the same procedure as for Louhi supercomputer accounts in March 2007.
Academic customers
Users from universities and polytechnics may apply user accounts for CSC's new HP ProLiant supercluster (murska.csc.fi) in advance according to the following procedure:
Customers with a valid user account to present computing servers (Corona, Sepeli, IBMSC, or Louhi) may send an informal email request to CSC User Manager (usermgr at csc.fi).
New customers who have no user account at CSC, may apply for user accounts according to the instructions on site How to apply for academic user accounts. Print out the application form for computing services, fill in the information, sign the form and mail it to CSC with a note 'User Accounts'.
NOTE: All Murska user accounts will not be opened until the computing server is officially opened for customer use. The exact date depends on how the acceptance tests are proceeding.
All customers will be notified when the user accounts are opened (old customers by email and new customers by letter).
Research institutes and companies
Research institutes and companies can use the services provided by CSC. However, the services are chargeable on the basis of a contract with CSC. If you are interested to open a computing project on Murska, please contact the persons mentioned on the Research institutes and companies web site.
Computing on Murska
Murska consumes the same CSC billing units as all other computing servers. When computing on Murska, one processor hour consumes one CSC billing unit (1.0 CPUh = 1.0 bu). Murska's computer factor is the same as Louhi's (1.0), since they both have the same AMD Opteron 2,6 GHz processor.
New customers will receive a starting quota of 5 000 billing units, when they open a new computing project on Murska. This starting quota is meant for running the scalability tests on Murska. Final resources for computing are applied by CPU time application on site Applying for CPU time / Large applications.
