Louhi number 109 and Murska number 118 on the TOP500 list

27.06.2007

Cray XT4 supercomputer of CSC (louhi.csc.fi) took position 109 on the TOP500 list of the world's most powerful computers, which was released June 27 at International Supercomputing Conference in Dresden. Louhi reached a Linpack benchmark performance of 8.9 Tflop/s.  It contains 1012 dual-core 2.6 GHz AMD Opteron processors.

Murska, the HP super-cluster of CSC,  took position 118 with a sustained performance of 8.2. The single-processor performance of Murska is the same as on Louhi, but its InfiniBand interconnect is slightly less effective for large parallel jobs than Cray's proprietary interconnect between the processors.

The most powerful computer on the list is the BlueGene/L System development by IBM and DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and installed at DOE’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California. The BlueGene/L reached a Linpack benchmark performance of 280.6 TFlop/s.
