The Finnish IT centre for science launches the new web pages on December 11, 2006. CSC aimed at designing the web site that is customer-oriented and easy to use. The new web site is segmented according to different customer groups.

”CSC aimed at designing the web site that has a clear and customer-friendly structure. CSC hopes that customers will find information easier and faster than before,” says Application Specialist Atte Sillanpää from CSC.

The web site is segmented according to the different target groups:

  • About CSC – organizational information, contact information
  • CSC’s Customers – diverse customer services, the form for applying the customership
  • Services for researchers – services for different sciences, links to software and databases
  • IT for administration – consulting, hosting, maintaining and operating sciences
  • Funet – Funet network and services attached to it
  • Collaboration – collaboration with research institutes and corporation

The IT administration services are the new and growing services at CSC. Services include consulting, hosting, maintaining and operating services for higher education and science administration. Examples of hosting services are the scientific databases Linnea and Armas.

Up-to-date information on the homepage

The homepage contains the latest news and guidebooks as well as information of the upcoming training courses. The web page also includes links to the extranet services, Scientist’s interface and Funet customer pages, which many customers find CSC’s most important services.

What is new compared with the old site?

The new web site contains shortcuts to the most often used services. The web pages also include news bulletins where customers get up-to-date information of CSC. On the new site users also find links to other web pages that contain information about similar issues.

The restructuring of the web pages may cause some changes in the content. If some old links do not work on the new site, information can be searched from the shortcuts. If there are web pages that do not open on the new site, CSC kindly asks customers to give feedback via feedback form. The most important web pages are directed to the new location.

CSC’s web pages have been published in Finnish and English. On the new site the publication language was chosen according to the target group.

Quality web pages with Plone system

CSC’s new web pages were constructed using Content Management System (CMS), Plone. “With Plone it is easier for organizations to manage extensive web sites. Plone’s information management system enables high level content providing. This results in good quality and regularly updated web pages,” says Munir Bakieh, managing director of Hexagon IT Oy.

CSC welcomes feedback from customers

CSC welcomes feedback and suggestions on how the web pages can be developed even more customer-friendly. Feedback can be sent  via feedback form.
