Louhi: Cray XT4/XT5
The third phase of the Cray XT supercomputer (louhi.csc.fi) was installed in September 2008. It consists of the earlier XT4 part and the new XT5 part. The XT4 part consists of 1012 and the XT5 part of 1344 quad-core AMD Opteron processors, totaling 9424 compute cores. The clock rate of the processors is 2.3 GHz. In general, the amount of memory is 1 GB per core but 384 cores of XT4 and 768 cores of XT5 have 2 GB per core. The total amount of memory is 10.3 TB.
The theoretical peak performance of Louhi is 86.7 TF and the real performance 66,27 TF according to Linpack tests. It is one of the most powerful computers in Europe.
Murska: HP CP4000 BL ProLiant supercluster
Murska (murska.csc.fi) is a high-performance supercluster of CSC. It has 544 compute nodes and each node has two dual-core 2.6 GHz AMD Opteron processor. The amount of compute cores is thereby 2*2*544=2176. The theoretical peak performance of Murska is 11.3 Tflop/s.
Hippu: HP ProLiant DL785 G5 server pair
The application server Hippu (hippu.csc.fi) consists of two HP ProLiant DL785 G5 servers. Both servers include eight quad-core AMD Opteron 8360 SE (Barcelona) 2.5GHz processors. there is 32 cores in both servers totalling to 64 cores. Another server (hippu1.csc.fi) contains 512 gigabytes of memory and another (hippu2.csc.fi) 256 gigabytes. The server is aimed for interactive and background serial jobs and for usage of graphical interfaces of application software. There is no batch queuing system on the servers. The facility will replace the Corona application server. Parallel jobs are recommended to be run in Murska super cluster or Louhi supercomputer.
Archive server: Sun Fire V880 & SL8500 Storagetek
Scientific computing creates a large amount of data that requires archiving that is both economical and safe, relying on very good taping technology. The CSC archive server (ds.csc.fi) is used for permanent archiving. Among other things, the server has worldwide weather data ranging from the year 1958 to today. The system is composed of a Sun V880 server and an StorageTek SL8500 tape robot. The storage capacity of the system is 1448 slots for tapes and scales up to 10000 slots, if needed.
Archive server NIC: Fujitsu Siemens Prime Power 450
nic.funet.fi (ftp.funet.fi) is one of the world's largest and oldest archive servers. Software from several different applications areas, information from many different fields of science, Internet data transfer standards, archives from discussion groups and a plethora of other information is all saved here.
Media server:
The media server(lipasto.tv.funet.fi, fomerly mbase.funet.fi) for the Funet-TV is planned for storage and delivery of different multimedia files especially as time critical media streams. For delivery of other than time critical files the NIC archive server is used, if possible. In addition of the the system is composed of a metadatabase and different auxiliary servers for conversions and maintenance.
Library Systems administrated by CSC
CSC administrates the university library Linnea database servers and the Armas database server of the Finnish polytechnics' libraries. The databases are maintained by the libraries and the Endeavor Information System Inc. CSC administrates also the Nelli server of the Nelli Portal for the national information search system owned by the FinElib consortion.
