Filling instructions

To fill in the CPU time application, please see the instructions below. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are compulsory. You may use English, Finnish or Swedish.

Name of the applicant*
Type your first and last name
E-mail*
Insert your e-mail address to receive a copy of your application
Phone
Phone number is not obligatory
Code or name of your project at CSC*
The Unix command saldo tells code(s) and name(s) of your project(s). This field is compulsory if you belong to more than one project.
Project manager*
Normally the project manager fills out the CPU time application. The project manager may be a professor or other senior researcher at the department.
*
One processor core hour consumes one billing unit (1 bu) of project's CSC quota on the following computers:
- louhi.csc.fi
- vuori.csc.fi
- murska.csc.fi
- hippu.csc.fi
Tips for estimating the amount of billing units:
- The Unix command saldo provides information on CPU time usage of your project since the beginning of the calendar year.
- For the average load and memory at CSC's computers, check Server Status.
- For details of CSC's computers, see technical information.
Short overview of results from previously granted resources*
Write a short description of recent work done on CSC computers. For example: "After the last CPU time application, we have managed to compute properties of certain doped silicon systems with good accuracy using the SINGER code."
*
Please list the publications your project has produced within the past year, and where the use of CSC's services has been mentioned. You may list the latest articles, presentations, posters, patents and theses. For example, "The results are presented in: Y. Simulator, M. Gradslave, and A. Lehrstuhl, Ab Initio Calculations of Oxygen Clustering in Silicon Systems, Phys. Rew. Lett. 1000 (2015) 098765; M. Gradslave and Y. Simulator, Aggregation Kinetics of Oxygen in Silicon, http://arxiv.org/abs/1512.1234."
For your publications please write e.g. "We acknowledge CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd. for the allocation of computational resources."
Program codes, methods and research objectives*
A short description of the planned usage of the applied resources, including the program codes you use. For example: "We are starting to use and further develop the FIESTA code, which will be run on the Louhi machine. FIESTA is DFT based on Linear Combination of Atomic Orbitals (LCAO). An order N algorithm is implemented in the code, which enables ab initio simulations of very large systems (several thousand atoms). As the first physical system to be studied with the code, we plan to..."
Other requests
For example:
- If the compute resources of your project are almost finished, you may ask for a pre-grant to continue your computing until the next meeting of the CSC Resource Allocation Group.
- You can request access to additional computers of CSC.
- You can ask for more disk space, either for individual named users or project-wide common space. You can monitor your own disk usage with the Unix command quota -v. Requests like these can also be sent anytime to usermgr at csc.fi.
- If you apply for a larger database size for your project's MySQL databases, please specify the new database size here (in gigabytes).
Feedback
All feedback is greatly appreciated. The CSC Resource Allocation Group will handle any requests.
