IPv6

IPv6 is the next generation Internet protocol that will take over IPv4. IPv6 is supported throughout the Funet backbone network and in all essential network services.

Funet (Finnish University and Research Network) has been an IPv6 pioneer since 1999. Funet has actively promoted IPv6, and participated in the development of the protocol.

IPv6 is available to all organizations connected to Funet network, and all essential network services in Funet have full IPv6 support. The network supports also IPv6 multicast.

Funet assists Funet member organizations during the ongoing transition to IPv6, by providing support and training. Additionally, Funet runs several IPv6 transition services. For example, organizations connected to Funet can use most Internet services without IPv4, with the help of the DNS64, NAT64 and MCAST46 transition services available in Funet.

Funet also participates in international research networks'  IPv6 coordination, for instance under the umbrella of Géant project.

Information about IPv6 in Funet is mostly available in Finnish.
