The material available from the server includes software from several different areas of application, information about various sciences, Internet communications standards, newsgroup archives and a lot of other information. Currently one of the primary focus areas are open source software collections like GNU / Linux distributions and databases, which are used by scientists and students.
It's content is maintained by mostly volunteer experts from various fields. If you are interested, you have the opportunity to start to maintain some science or software area in the archive server. Although most of the content is currently being mirrored automatically there's still role for local content maintainers as well.
The current server is a four processor Primepower 450 server with 16GB of RAM from Fujitsu Siemens Computers with a EMC CX300 storage subsystem. The server is situated in CSC's premises in Keilaranta. The archive service coordinator is Harri K. Salminen.
Please send your questions, that are not satisfied by our README file, preferably by email to the appropriate -adm contact address since we have many volunteers taking care of different issues.
The server does support WWW browsers, but for selecting and transferring multiple files we still recommend using a good dedicated FTP client. For more information, please check the help page on ftp file transfers.
