Medar is a metadata search engine for multimedia archives that has been developed by CSC. Originally it was designed to describe video assets on CSC's media servers but the end result was a server and format independent database based on open source java technology which can describe any kind of URL. For description of assets we developed a Dublin Core XML-schema which has been extended for multimedia purposes.
