Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability - A LES Model

Here ELMER was used to simulate the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability with Reynolds number ~ 10000.

The rational Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model with Smagorinsky subgrid scale terms was used to compute the time dependent solution of the filtered Navier-Stokes equations.

Here you can download an animation of the results mpeg: [~850 KB] The video shows the vorticity of the filtered velocity field.
