Coating of optical fibers

The optical fibers are very thin and must therefore be coated before it is stored. This means that the coating process must be done with the same speed as the drawing of optical fibers. This sets high demands for the coating geometry since it must provide even coating at high draw speeds. In Elmer a tailored free surface boundary condition has been implementod allow efficient solution of the particular problem.

The pictures show the velocity and pressure fields resulting from a simple coating geometry.
