The figure shows an elastic beam which is deflected by the electrostatic force resulting from the potential difference between the bending beam and the stationary plate. The electrostatic force is calculated using the Maxwell stress tensor, and the visualization is the absolute value of the surface force density.
In the underlying calculation, several coupled equations were solved, ie. static electric potential, electrostatic force, elastic displacements, and mesh update. The empty space between the electrodes, and surrounding the beam, belongs to the computational domain, and is also meshed even though it is not shown in the figure.
