Flow past backward facing step in 3D

The figures below show velocity vectors and the pressure distribution of the flow past a backward facing step with Reynolds number Re=100. Constant inflow condition was enforced, and the flow was assumed incompressible.

The ElmerSolver uses a stabilized finite element formulation to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In this simulation linear tetra elements were used.

The geometry and finite element mesh of this example were generated using the NETGEN-program written by Joachim Schöberl.
