Disks

This section gives a brief overview of the disks in Vuori.

Vuori has local disks for system files and computational data. The most important one for Vuori users is the Lustre file system where all users have a personal work directory specified by the $WRKDIR variable. Most computational work should be done in $WRKDIR for performance reasons. In some cases, especially when dealing with small files, a node local, limited size $TMPDIR might be a bit faster. Users are encouraged to do some experiments for their own use cases. The node local 10K SAS disk has about 110GB for $TMPDIR usage.

Lustre is a production ready parallel file system developed by Cluster File Systems, Inc and later by Sun Microsystems/Oracle. It is a high-performance file system designed to handle huge I/O demands of parallel programs.

Vuori Lustre disk system total capacity is 45 TB. Lustre disk system is connected to other parts of Vuori using the high-speed InfiniBand network.
