Overview of the Vuori system

This section gives a brief summary of the Vuori configuration.

Vuori is an HP CP4000 BL ProLiant supercluster. Vuori has total 304 compute nodes:

  • 272 (n1 - n272) having two six-core 2.6 GHz AMD Opteron 64-bit processors each and dedicated memory of 1.33 GB for 1536 cores (16 GB/node, 128 nodes, n1 - n128) and 2.66 GB for 1728 cores (32 GB/node, 144 nodes, n129 - n272). The nodes n241 - n272 are dedicated to the Corander research group
  • 8 GPGPU nodes (g1 - g8) with NVidia Tesla GPGPU accelerators (10x 2050 and 6x 2070) and having two six-core 2.6 GHz Intel Xeon processors each, added to the Vuori in October 2010
  • 24 (n273 - n296) big memory nodes (96GB/node, 8GB/core), each having two six-core 2.6 GHz Intel Xeon processors, added to the Vuori in December 2011

The internet name of the cluster is vuori.csc.fi. When you log in using this name you are redirected to one of the two login nodes, either vuori1.csc.fi or vuori2.csc.fi. You can log in to these login nodes directly, too.

Processors are connected via InfiniBand (4x DDR) network, GPGPU nodes and 24 big memory nodes are connected via QDR InfiniBand interconnect. The theoretical peak performance of Vuori (272 nodes) is 34 Tflop/s (Rpeak) and the Linpack performance is 27 Tflop/s (Rmax). Vuori has 145 TB of local disk space using the fast Lustre file system.

The cluster has RHEL 5.7 operating system in the login nodes and and Centos 5.7 in the compute nodes.
