Books
The following books related to bioinformatics are freely available for personal use.
- DNA Microarray Data Analysis, second edition (PDF, in English). This guidebook is intended especially for use as course material providing versatile descriptions of the concepts and methods of DNA microarray data analysis. The guide was written by team of Finnish microarray experts.
- Bioinformatiikan sanasto (Finnish dictionary of Bioinformatics) Short descriptions of about 500 bioinformatics-related terms. This dictionary can be used with a web browser or it can be printed out in pdf-format.
- Sekvenssianalyysiopas (PDF, in Finnish) This guide provides an introduction to the usage of sequece analysis tools and databases in the Scientist's Interface and in Coronna application server.
- Bioinformatiikan perusteet (PDF, in Finnish) This guide is an introduction to the basic methods of bioinformatics and molecular systematics. Book does not provide instructions on how to use software packages, but contains theoretical background to the methods. Thus, it completes the theoretical issues discussed in Sekvenssianalyysiopas.
- The basic guide for the statistical methods and programs used in gene mapping (PDF, in Finnish) This guide introduces basic ideas of the parametric and non-parametric linkage analysis, TDT, and association analysis. It also gives detailed information how to use different software packages available for the analysis.
- A primer to phylogenetic analysis using Phylip package (PDF, in English) The purpose of this tutorial is to demonstrate how to use Phylip, a collection of phylogenetic analysis software, and some of the options that are available.
- Molecular systematics - material for practicals (PDF, in English) This is a tutorial used on a phylogenetics course at CSC in 2006. Although this book is mainly intented to be used on the course, it gives detailed information on how to use programs TNT, RAxML, MrBayes, and POY installed on CSC's servers.
- DNA microarray data analysis using Bioconductor (PDF, in English) This publication, written in a cookbook style, discusses analysis of expression data. Covered tools are R and Bioconductor.
