CSC’s GIS services provides GIS-software for research and educational use in Finnish universities and polytechnics. At the moment two GIS software consortia exist:
Universities and polytechnics have the possibility to become members of the GIS software consortia. In practice, this means that CSC purchases the software licenses, which will be used in universities and polytechnics.
University applies for membership in the desired GIS software consortium for the next year. Ministry of Education and Culture supports the GIS software consortia. In the division of licenses the aim is to give everybody equal rights and to support these units, that otherwise might have difficulties to buy the licenses themselves.
