On the amendment to the Swedish keyboard standard (SIS-remiss 4027)
(Message sent on 31.10.2005.)
Dear Monica,
Thank you for the opportunity for us to comment on this Swedish standard proposal.
Our position is the same as in our comments of 2005-09-20 on the previous proposal (SIS-remiss 3867), namely that approving the proposal for the highly limited scope would be a disservice both to the Swedish user community at large and to the users with similar requirements in the other Nordic countries. In fact, the changes made to the proposal have had the effect of only strengthening our position.
As agreed, we'll submit to you the proposal for a new keyboard layout prepared by the Finnish working group. It covers a superset of the repertoire covered by the current Swedish proposal for a "Swedish International" layout, but employs a totally different design approach.
The attached proposal will subsequently be submitted for public review in the open with a comment period closing in November. Thus, one could expect some changes to be requested in e.g., the required engravings. We'd also appreciate comments from Sweden and the other Nordic countries, in addition to those from the representative IT industry.
If we encounter any errors or omissions in the process of preparing the public review material in Finnish, we'll inform you of these asap.
Sincerely, Erkki
