EMREX seminar plans co-operation for the promotion of international student mobility

How and for what can the electronic student records transfer tool developed in the EMREX project be used? What does the future look like for the mobility of students and student data? And, why should a higher education institution join the EMREX community? These questions, among others, will be discussed at the project seminar, EMREX Unleashed, in Bologna, Italy on November 30, 2017.

In Finland, the EMREX project is co-ordinated by the Ministry of Education and Culture, which has assigned the task to CSC. Launched in 2015, the project is now drawing to a close. The seminar will address how the user group-type activities will be organized in the future and how EMREX co-operation will go forward. In addition to this, seminar participants will discuss what was learned in the field trials and give thought to the possibilities offered by EMREX in the future.

All the countries currently involved in the EMREX project will continue their co-operation, with new countries joining the community.

– EMREX has sparked a great deal of interest, even outside the project. DUO (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs), which is the Education Executive Agency of the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, has already joined the EMREX network, and we have held technical workshops with, for example, our German partners. It's really gratifying to see what a great start we've had in the transition from EU project to production, not to mention our expansion, explains EMREX Project Manager Mats Lindstedt of CSC.

EMREX promotes international student mobility

The goal of the EMREX project, which is funded by the European Commission, is to increase international student mobility by digitalizing the transfer of study credits between institutions of higher education. The basis for student exchange is that students are able to put the credits they earn abroad toward their degree at home. However, this often involves painstakingly slow paperwork.

– The tools offered by EMREX will allow students to electronically transfer their records on their own, quickly and reliably, to another higher education institution, says Lindstedt.
