HPC-Europa3 – Pan-European Research Infrastructure on High Performance Computing

Funding source: H2020

Project duration: 1.5.2017 – 30.4.2021

Project website: www.hpc-europa.eu

What we are doing:

HPC-Europa3 is an EC-funded programme which allows researchers to carry out short "transnational access" visits to other countries to collaborate with a research department working in a similar field. During visits HPCE3 provides access to some of the most powerful computers in Europe.

Finnish researchers can apply for visits in total of nine European countries

The project finances researcher visits to countries whose high-performance computing centers put their resources at the visitors' disposal. These are Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK. Applications are submitted electronically through the project website and assessed by an international scientific panel.

The HPC-Europa3 project will continue until April 2021. Visit applications can be made at any time, and they will be evaluated four times every year. The goal of the project is to support more than one thousand visits.

CSC acts as the organizing center in Finland providing computational resources and other high-quality ICT services for the visitors. The visitors will be funded for their travel and accommodation, and granted with an amount of computing time required by the approved project.

Visits can vary 3–13 weeks

The programme is open to researchers of any level, from PhD students to full professors, in any field able to make use of scientific computing. As a rule, the visitor will not work in the target country's supercomputing center but will be hosted by a suitable academic research group. Hundreds of hosts have already signed up and can be browsed (by country) in the application form. If you want to sign up as a host, please contact staff (at) hpc-europa.org.

Applications always concern academic research. The researchers of universities, universities of applied sciences and research institutes, for example, can apply for the exchange, but also companies can participate. Reasonable travel and accommodation costs are reimbursed by the project, which also pays a small daily allowance. The visits can last 3–13 weeks. The HPCE3 site also lists training events that can be combined with visits.

Why not visit an interesting research group abroad, invite a researcher to visit your group, create new or strengthen existing collaboration networks, and make use of specific expertise available in other European countries?
