CSC supports higher education cooperation in teaching and learning

On 3 February, the Ministry of Education and Culture granted EUR 25 million to higher education institutions for the development of digital learning environments, year-round learning and flexible study paths. These development projects will increase cooperation between higher-education institutions and renew their operating practices. To support these projects, the Ministry has bought architecture services from CSC - IT Center for Science that the projects can utilise to distribute the results of their cooperative efforts.

CSC is an ICT competence centre specialising in research, education and public administration, which is jointly owned by the state and higher education institutions. With its interoperable solutions and expertise, CSC supports the preconditions for the development of higher education.

– The state has assigned partial ownership of CSC to higher education institutions so that they can more easily rely on us to flexibly and efficiently support and implement their shared operations when needed, says Antti Mäki, Director at CSC.

CSC supports the development of a common architecture for education and research, and promotes its application. It means cooperation and interoperability: maintaining communications between independent actors, structures for long-term steering cooperation and interaction between development projects. Interoperability is ensured with joint commitments: that is, descriptions of issues ranging from a shared language to technical data transfer specifications.

Together with the Ministry and the cooperation networks of the field, CSC will organise a workshop in Helsinki on 3 and 4 May for the development projects, concerning the services created in these projects and their connection to national services.
