FGCI2 – Finnish Grid and Cloud Infrastructure2

What we are doing:

Finnish Grid and Cloud Infrastructure, co-funded by the Academy of Finland and 13 Finnish research institutions, operates and develops a state-of-the art distributed Grid and Cloud computing infrastructure in Finland.

The FGCI serves as a platform for development of grid and cloud computing technologies within current computer science research, and at the same time serves all other fields of science needing computational resources in Finland, promoting both national and international collaboration.

The FGCI forms the indispensable mid-range computational infrastructure for a large user base, complementary to the Finnish supercomputers, intended for solving grand challenges by expert groups, and the local workstations of numerous researchers, suitable for code development and simple numerical analyses. FGCI facilitates the integration of the local resources via grid and cloud technology with the CSC high-end supercomputers and EU-level EGI resources.

The FGCI is formed by: University of Helsinki, Aalto University, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Tampere University of Technology, University of Eastern Finland, University of Jyväskylä, University of Oulu, University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, National Land Survey of Finland, Finnish Geospatial Research Institute FGI, Helsinki Institute of Physics, Helsinki Institute of Information technology and CSC - IT Center for Science Ltd.

CSC coordinates the FGCI's procurement, installation and operations.
