HPC-GIG (HPC Governance Intelligence Gathering)

Funding source: H2020

Project duration: 1.9.2018 – 28.2.2020

HPC-GIG project (HPC Governance Intelligence Gathering) will provide intelligence gathering from the European HPC stakeholders for the Governance of the Euro High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU). The EuroHPC JU started its activities in autumn 2018. The EuroHPC JU will pool European resources to develop top-of-the-range exascale supercomputers for processing big data, based on competitive European technology. It will enable European countries to coordinate their supercomputing strategies and investments together with the EU.

For this purpose the HPC-GIG project will establish an effective and responsive communication channel with the EuroHPC JU Governance, engage all relevant stakeholders in the HPC and data ecosystem, develop knowledge registries and consolidate networks of expertise, link national and pan-European activities in the field, involving users, implementers and funders participating in the European HPC and Big Data activities, organise workshops for stakeholder groups and/or participating in already-existing strategic HPC events, and create visibility and position the project within the European HPC and data ecosystem.

HPC-GIG has a consortium of three partners PRACE, ETP4HPC and GÉANT and 11 linked third parties. CSC is a linked third party in the project and will contribute to dissemination work in the project (WP3).

Direct benefits for Finnish higher education institutes:

•    Improved communication between European users, implementers and funders in the areas of HPC and Big Data.

•    Improved awareness of the European HPC and Big Data policies and opportunities for science and industry.
