WIDE – Open Source Science is a multidisciplinary three-day event in which the competitors will be challenged to develop solutions for promoting open science practices.
WIDE is addressed to people who feel that science belongs to everyone and that is should be free, transparent, accessible and as comprehensible as possible. The event is organized in cooperation by CSC, The National Library of Finland, the University of Helsinki IT Center and Helsinki Think Company.
This multidisciplinary event is targeted at audiences of all ages from data scientists and software developers to social scientists and humanities scholars. WIDE has two components: the hackathon challenge focusing on coding and data visualization, and a multidisciplinary concept design competition. In the Hackathon challenge, unique data sets on which the suggested solution can be based will be offered to the competitors.
The culmination of the event will be the final, where the teams will present the solutions developed by them during the weekend. Prizes will be given to the best ideas. Applications to the event will be received until 11 October 2018.
